Temporary Water and Sewer Plant Laboratory Assistant Technician - Water and Sewerage

Temporary Position - No benefits.
Assists in performing water and sewer plant laboratory work. Work involves testing water and wastewater samples to determine effectiveness of plant operation and if samples meet established health and cleanliness standards. Work requires specialized training in laboratory work. Work is performed under technical supervision.
Essential Job Functions/Other Duties/KSA:Collects wastewater and drinking water samples to be tested.
Prepares solutions and reagents used in analysis.
Performs standard chemical and bacteriological tests on samples.
Performs various analyses of data as required.
Maintains inventory on equipment, chemicals and supplies; orders laboratory supplies and equipment as needed.
Maintains all laboratory equipment in good working condition; ensures laboratory is neat, clean and orderly.
Maintains logs of all tests performed, equipment use and maintenance.
Performs laboratory quality control and assessment procedures.
Assists Laboratory Technician in completing all Water Supply Program requirements.
Other Duties
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.)
Knowledge of--
Basic principles of chemistry and microbiology.
Techniques, methods and procedures of laboratory testing of water and wastewater samples.
Instruments and equipment used in water and wastewater analysis.
Ability to--
Perform water and wastewater laboratory tests.
Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies and keep records.
Deal effectively with the public.
Minimum Qualifications:Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.)
Training and/or Education:
Associate's degree in a laboratory science.
Licenses or Certificates:
Valid driver's license.
MDE certification as a Drinking Water Sampler within one year of employment.
Other Information:Special Requirements:
Operation of a County-owned vehicle.
Physical Demands:
Requires long periods of standing, frequent walking indoors, repeated bending, crouching, stooping, stretching or reaching; recurring lifting of objects up to 49 pounds; operation of keyboard devices.
Unusual Demands:
Workers are exposed to dirt and soil, sewage, chemicals and hazards of working around laboratory solutions.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
